APSU Creative Writing Club hosts 2nd Spring Reading event April 29
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 For the last year, a group of talented Austin Peay State University students has met once a week to challenge and inspire each other toward creating publishable works of prose and poetry. The criticism was sometimes tough to hear, but the honest feedback helped the young writers polish their poems and short stories.
At 7 p.m. on April 29, these individuals will unveil the pieces they鈥檝e toiled over for the last year during the Austin Peay Creative Writing Club鈥檚 Second Annual Spring Reading event in Morgan University Center Ballroom A. The reading is free and open to the public.
鈥淭here will be lots of really good and improved work,鈥 Renee Ramsey, APSU graduate student and club member, said. 鈥淭hese writers have been bringing their work to the meetings, and we鈥檝e workshopped them there. It鈥檚 a great group of writers.鈥
APSU students organized the club two years ago to provide the campus鈥 creative individuals, regardless of their major, with an opportunity to workshop their writing.
鈥淲e didn鈥檛 really have a student-based writer鈥檚 community,鈥 Sarah Key, club vice-president, said.
The formation of the writing club created that community, and the enthusiastic students now regularly attend readings, take literary road trips and host special events, such as last fall鈥檚 Playfest at the Roxy Regional Theater. Last year鈥檚 inaugural Spring Reading event even drew a larger crowd than the club members expected.
鈥淲e packed the ballroom last year,鈥 Key said. 鈥淲e ran out of programs. We were overflowing.鈥
So be sure to arrive early for this year鈥檚 reading, and enjoy the free coffee provided by the club.
