CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 This December, why not enjoy a night of holiday music with a couple hundred of your closest friends? That鈥檚 what will happen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, when the Austin Peay State University Department of Music hosts 鈥淐hristmas with David Steinquest and Friends: A Winter Wonderland鈥 in the Mabry Concert Hall.
鈥淭he stage will have a rug, couches and chairs and lamps and a Christmas tree, so everyone feels like they鈥檙e in someone鈥檚 living room and there鈥檚 this party going on, and then there starts to be music at the party,鈥 Steinquest, APSU professor of music, said. 鈥淚t will be very casual.鈥
The concert will feature a band made up of Steinquest鈥檚 favorite musicians 鈥 guitarist Paul Binkley, bass player Tony Nagy, drummer Matt DeVore and vocalists Allison Campbell and David Alford. Binkley formerly played with the country music group Alabama, and Alford can be seen every week on ABC鈥檚 鈥淣ashville鈥 as the character Bucky Dawes. Vocalist Erin Binkley will join the group this year, bringing a little theatrical fun to the evening.
鈥淪he is going to do 鈥楢 Christmas Pageant,鈥 a one-woman show that鈥檚 a little story she tells,鈥 Steinquest said. 鈥淚t is so funny. She鈥檚 perfect for it.鈥
The evening鈥檚 holiday program will have a sort of pop/jazzy sound, featuring works by some of Steinquest鈥檚 favorite artists, including James Taylor鈥檚 arrangement of 鈥淲inter Wonderland鈥 and Family Force 5鈥檚 arrangement of 鈥淒o you Hear What I Hear.鈥 The concert also will feature holiday works by new artists, such as 鈥淭racks in the Snow,鈥 by The Civil Wars.
鈥淭hat is the most beautiful tune,鈥 Steinquest said. 鈥淧eople are going to cry.鈥
And it wouldn鈥檛 be a Steinquest concert without some strange, percussion elements.
鈥淭here are boom whackers on this Christmas concert,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 all I鈥檓 going to say about it. But it鈥檚 going to be really, really fun, and you鈥檙e going to dig it.鈥
Admission to the concert is either two cans of food, donated to Loaves and Fishes, or $3. The event traditionally sells out, so contact the APSU Department of Music at 221-7818 for ticket information.
