Before transitioning to higher education, Dr. Oliver accumulated 17 years of experience in public education as a paraprofessional, alternatively licensed teacher, special education teacher, department chair, and positive behavior specialist. She also led the development and delivery of professional learning for special educators, equipping educators with evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices. These experiences continue to shape her commitment to preparing future educators to advocate for students with disabilities and other diverse learners while promoting equitable, inclusive, and high-quality educational practices that ensure all students have opportunities to succeed.

Dr. Oliver's research interests focus on advancing equitable and evidence-based practices in special education through innovation, teacher preparation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her scholarship explores the integration of artificial intelligence to support educators' instructional decision-making, IEP development, and professional learning while promoting ethical, inclusive, and culturally responsive implementation. She is particularly interested in evidence-based practices within multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS/RTI), social-emotional learning, and inclusive instructional strategies that improve outcomes for students with disabilities and other diverse learners. Dr. Oliver's research also examines issues of educational equity, including the intersection of disability, race, and disproportionality in special education, with an emphasis on preparing educators to create inclusive learning environments through research-informed practice, collaborative leadership, and sustained professional development.
