Two Austin Peay administrators now have new job titles

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. 鈥 Two members of the Austin Peay State University senior leadership team were given new job titles this semester in order to take better advantage of their expertise and leadership skills. Dannelle Whiteside, APSU general counsel and secretary to the APSU Board of Trustees, was named vice president for legal affairs and secretary to the APSU Board of Trustees, and Carol Clark, executive assistant to the president for community and government relations, was named assistant vice president for community and government relations.
鈥淟eadership is often defined differently by different people, but it鈥檚 easy to recognize in Dannelle Whiteside and Carol Clark,鈥 Dr. Alisa White, APSU president, said. 鈥淒annelle Whiteside has been a difference-maker since she arrived on campus. She has done a wonderful job providing oversight to legal affairs and setting up the Board of Trustees. The Senior Leadership Team relies on her wisdom.鈥
Whiteside arrived at Austin Peay in 2016 as the University鈥檚 first general counsel. She previously served as general attorney for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to her work with the U.S. Department of Education, Whiteside worked as general counsel to the Tennessee State Board of Education. She was named a Nashville Emerging Leader in the Education category by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, a Nation鈥檚 Best Advocate: 40 Lawyers Under 40, and a Nashville鈥檚 Top 30 Under 30. She has a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Clark joined the University鈥檚 staff full-time in 2001, and she has served the institution in many different capacities over the last 18 years. She is chair of Austin Peay鈥檚 Military Education Task Force and has volunteered at numerous Welcome Home Ceremonies for returning Fort Campbell soldiers.
鈥淐arol Clark has been a campus and community leader for many years, and she has been a positive influence in every role she鈥檚 had,鈥 White said. 鈥淪he is doing an amazing job keeping up with proposed legislation that might impact Austin Peay and representing APSU to public officials.鈥
Clark has served as a board member of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library, United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region and Soldiers And Families Embraced. She is a member of Clarksville Rotary, Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society. She is a graduate of Leadership Clarksville and Leadership Middle Tennessee (LMT), and she currently serves on the LMT board. She is a member of the Complete Tennessee Leadership Institute Class of 2019.
Clark earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Communication and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Austin Peay. She is finishing her doctoral degree in educational leadership at Western Kentucky University.
