Austin Peay This Week: University officials expect to receive first vaccine doses soon

Austin Peay State University expects to receive its first doses of the Moderna vaccine this week as it partners with Montgomery County in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Austin Peay officials got the word from the state last Wednesday that the University can open its vaccination site. The University has erected vaccine tents in parking lot 11, next to the Ard building, and the University’s nursing faculty and students are ready to begin administering doses.
“Once we receive our doses from the state, we’ll give the vaccine only to individuals who have made an appointment through the state’s ,” Michael Kasitz, APSU assistant vice president for public safety, said. “And we’ll dispense the vaccine following Tennessee’s phased vaccination plan, which means we won’t accept any walk-in appointments.”

Red Cross blood drive coming Feb. 26
Austin Peay’s Student Government Association is partnering with the American Red Cross for a blood drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Morgan University Center ballroom.

‘Entangled Entities’ opens Feb. 22 at The New Gallery, artist lecture on Feb. 25
The New Gallery, with support from The Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the Department of Art + Design, is pleased to present Entangled Entities, a new exhibition by bio-artist Laura Splan, to continue an exciting 2020-2021 exhibition season.
“Entangled Entities is an exhibition that combines biomedical research with aesthetics,” said Michael Dickins, curator and director of The New Gallery. “With her work, Splan choreographs poetic confrontations with science inside the gallery to foster deeper engagement with science outside the gallery.”
The exhibit opens Monday, Feb. 22, at The New Gallery in the Art + Design building on the campus of Austin Peay State University and runs through March 26. Splan will give an artist lecture at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 via Zoom. Register for this free talk.
A 360-degree virtual walk-through will accompany this exhibition for those who wish to view the work from the safety of their homes. The walk-through can be found on The New Gallery’s webpage and can be accessed via .
In addition to the exhibition in The New Gallery, Splan’s body of work, Unraveling, will be featured in The Terminal Gallery, the Department of Art + Design’s gallery for 21st Century video/animation/time-based media art, throughout March.
