This Week at Austin Peay: New Gallery begins spring semester with Christina A. West exhibit

The New Gallery with support from the Department of Art + Design and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will host an exhibit from , sculptor and installation artist, from Jan. 12-Feb. 11.
The exhibit 鈥 called 鈥渕ere mortals鈥 鈥 opens on Wednesday, Jan. 12. West will be on campus for an artist lecture at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Sundquist Science Complex, Room E106A/B.
She鈥檒l also give a gallery talk at 12:30 p.m. at The New Gallery. The exhibit also will be open from 5-7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 during the First Thursday Art Walk.
All exhibitions at The New Gallery and all corresponding programming are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m-4 p.m. and follow the University鈥檚 academic calendar and weather policy. Curator-guided tours of exhibitions are available per request.

Getting ready for the spring semester
Even though classes don鈥檛 begin until Jan. 18, activity on campus is ramping up for the spring semester.
The Adult, Transfer and Nontraditional Student Center is helping students find their classes ahead of time all week. Student leaders will help their classmates find their classes while providing snacks and drinks. Visit for more details.
And the Military Student Center is hosting a Veterans Affairs benefits readiness event from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Ann R. Ross Bookstore. Veterans Upward Bound, Veterans Education Benefits and Student Account Services will be available. Student veterans and family members will have priority purchasing books for the new semester, and there will be free T-shirts, a kid鈥檚 corner and an opportunity to win one of two $50 gift cards.

Mary Lee McCreary Rugraff ('41) attended Austin Peay State College on a music scholarship and performed as a soprano soloist. Music was her lifetime passion, and in addition to funding APSU music scholarships, she supported the music program at her church with gifts to the endowment.
