APSU professor’s ‘100days’ project uses art to inspire people to register, vote

Austin Peay State University Art Professor Paul Collins has been creating and placing artistic vote signs throughout Middle Tennessee – especially throughout Nashville and Clarksville – since this summer. And he hopes the initiative, called 100days, will inspire area residents to register and vote in the Nov. 3 election. Collins started the project 100 days before Election Day, and he has placed a sign – an artistically crafted animal sign with the word “vote” emblazoned across the creature – for every day counting down to Nov. 3. “Voter registration deadline is Oct. 5, and I’ll be doing community giveaways of these vote signs,” Collins said. Collins also spent Thursday morning placing the signs around Austin Peay’s campus as part of the university’s Art + Design Faculty Triennial art show, which runs Sept. 28.-Oct. 23. Also, the Department of Political Science and Public Management is hosting a Civic Engagement 101 seminar at 11 a.m. Sept. 30 to help APSU employees and students prepare for the election.
