Chemical Safety & Hazard Communication
Hazardous chemicals are used across campus in teaching and research laboratories, art studios, and facility operations. Austin Peay State University is committed to maintaining a safe and compliant environment for all students, faculty and staff.
APSU follows OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard, which ensures everyone has the "right to know" about chemical hazards in their work or learning environment.
If you work with or around chemicals, you have the right to know:
- What chemicals are present
- The hazards associated with them
- How to use them safely
- Where to find Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) provides important safety information, including:
- Health and physical hazards
- Safe handling and storage
- required PPE
- Spill and emergency response guidance
