Austin Peay hosting Civic Engagement 101 workshop for students, employees

Interim Austin Peay State University President Dannelle Whiteside recently announced a special Civic Engagement 101 seminar, hosted by Human Resources and the Department of Political Science and Public Management, at 11 a.m. on Sept. 30. The workshop will be virtual on Zoom.
This event is open to all faculty, staff and students, and it will provide attendees with important information on the electoral process. Austin Peay students and employees can register for the workshop .
Dr. Kevin Baron will be the presenter, and the workshop will provide information on the registration and voting process; resources for information and non-partisan voter guides; basic information covering political parties and the electoral college to understand processes and procedures; and answering basic questions on what-if scenarios and what to expect with an election during a pandemic. Baron is an assistant professor in political science.
Austin Peay also has a website, , with additional information, such as how to register to vote or how to request an absentee ballot.
Austin Peay’s Student Government Association also is hosting a Presidential Debate watch party for students 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Clement Auditorium. Attendance is limited to the first 77 people, so arrive early. Students will get free food too.
In another initiative, Art Professor Paul Collins has been creating and placing artistic vote signs throughout Middle Tennessee – especially throughout Nashville and Clarksville – since this summer. And he hopes the initiative, called 100days, will inspire area residents to register and vote in the Nov. 3 election. You can read more about that effort here.
